Mom 2 Mom
The goal of Mom 2 Mom is to assist inexperienced expectant mothers in identifying real options to enhance the health during pregnancy and well being of both themselves and their unborn children. We also hope to support those mothers through education and guidance after the birth of their children in order to become loving, nurturing moms.
Our Model
Mom 2 Mom is a service of women to women. It is about caring and giving. Mentoring Mothers model Mary's example, duplicating her job of visiting and supporting Elizabeth, written about in the gospel of Luke:
"Therupon Mary set out, proceeding in haste into the hill country to a town of Judah, where she entered Zechariah's house and greeted Elizabeth." Consider the joy of this visit between two women of faith. "When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby lept in her womb. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Sprit and cried out in a loud voice: 'Blest are you among women and and blest is the fruit of your womb. But whom am I that the mother of my Lord should come to me? The moment your greeting sounded in my ears, the baby lept in my womb for joy.'" Think about the conversations and the activities these women shared. "Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months and then returned home." (Luke 1:39-56)
Mom 2 Mom is a ministry of love.
Our objectives
The objectives of Mom 2 Mom are realistic and successful. Some of our goals and objectives are:
- To increase the percentage of women getting prenatal care from the first trimester
- To reduce the dropout rate of pregnant or parenting teens.
- To have a Mentor for every client needing one
- To match a Mentoring Mother to a pregnant client in the first trimester of pregnancy
- To provide education and support to clients with personal and phone visits
- To reduce risky behavior in sexually active teen parents through abstinence programs
- To offer programs specifically designed to educate on matters of child development, health and safety, and child endangerment
The structure of each mentoring experience will be unique, reflecting the needs of each individual; utilizing existing support structures of the community, and resources within our organization.
Our Services
The key services provided by the Mom 2 Mom program includes:
- Mentoring guidance throughout the baby's first year of life
- Access to established training resources
- Referrals to established reputable adoption agencies (if desired by mother)
- Referrals to professional medical care
- Referrals to professional legal services
- Assistance to physical support resources (food, baby items, et. al.)
- Spiritual support of mentoring mothers
- Referrals to professional counselors
"Mom 2 Mom gives you an extra friend to talk with and give you support. You can talk with them on the phone or face-to-face about your emotional or financial problems and she listens to you. You can express your thoughts, she is a real friend, one who cares about you and your baby."
Today, in all factions and economic classes of our society, young women are finding themselves without role models to show them how to bond with, nurture, and care for their babies. These women, especially when faced with unplanned pregnancy, may feel isolated and without support or guidance. It is our goal to provide for such women, and their children, a network of experienced mothers, willing to provide mature friendship and wise counsel.
